Oh Se-hoon Signs Yeouido Office Lease... 'Candidacy Announcement' Imminent

'Smooth Communication' Across from Party Headquarters
Symbolic Meaning of Conservative Restoration

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon is believed to have signed a lease for an office in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, fueling speculation that his presidential bid announcement is imminent.

According to Mayor Oh's camp on the 8th, the office he leased is located in the 'Manhattan 21' building, opposite the People Power Party headquarters near National Assembly Station on Line 9. This location was chosen for its convenience in facilitating smooth communication with the central party.

There is also a symbolic meaning of "conservative restoration." A representative from Mayor Oh's camp said, "The first victory after the People Power Party established its current headquarters in 2020 was the by-election in 2021 when Mayor Oh became the mayor of Seoul," adding, "The Manhattan 21 building is a space that reminds us that Mayor Oh was the key figure leading the party’s first victory and served as the catalyst for conservative restoration."

With the presidential election date set for June 3, and announcements of candidacies following one after another, Mayor Oh is also expected to declare his candidacy sometime this week. After a meeting with Seoul Run students on the day, he told reporters, "I haven't set the date (for the announcement) yet," but added, "I don't think it will take that long."

When asked about his first campaign pledge, he said, "If I run, my goal is to see proven policies like 'Seoul Run,' which were achieved through Seoul city administration, spread nationwide."

Within the People Power Party, it is expected that many local government heads, including Mayor Oh, will throw their hats into the presidential race. Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok, and Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo have formalized their schedules for announcing their candidacies. The People Power Party plans to hold its first meeting with the National Election Commission on the 9th to discuss the schedule for the presidential primary.
