Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Employers Federation
"Cooperate for the Normalization of Management"
The Gwangju business community has urged the labor union to accept the mediation proposal presented by the Special Committee for Mediation and Arbitration of the Gwangju Labor-Management-Civic-Government Council to resolve the labor-management conflict at GGM.
The Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Gwangju Employers Federation issued a statement on the 8th, saying, "The union announced at a press conference on the 3rd that it cannot accept the current mediation proposal," and added, "We urge the union to accept the mediation proposal for the growth of GGM and the revitalization of the local economy."
They explained, "The mediation proposal requires both management and the labor union to abide by the Labor-Management Win-Win Development Agreement, which forms the foundation of GGM's establishment. In addition, it recommends that management provide a union office, deduct union dues collectively, and expand contributions to the employee welfare fund. For the union, it recommends postponing strikes until the production target of 350,000 units is achieved and cooperating in expanding production volume."
They continued, "The Gwangju City government immediately announced its acceptance of the mediation proposal, and although management also feels burdened by some aspects of the proposal that do not fully align with the intent of the Labor-Management Win-Win Agreement, they have decided to accept it as it was carefully considered and presented by the Labor-Management-Civic-Government Council," and emphasized, "This mediation proposal was prepared after fairly and balancedly listening to the diverse opinions of the parties involved and civil society, and after reasonably reviewing the purpose of establishing the Gwangju-type job model and related laws and regulations."
They also pointed out, "Even though management has accepted a significant portion of the union's demands, the union continues to refuse to change its stance," and said, "In particular, the union's refusal to accept the clause to postpone strikes until the 350,000-unit production target is met is a serious violation of the Labor-Management Win-Win Development Agreement and an act that denies the very foundation of GGM's establishment."
They further added, "Recently, the uncertainty of finished vehicle exports is increasing due to changes in U.S. tariff policies and the expansion of protectionism in countries around the world," and urged, "The union should also accept the mediation proposal and cooperate for stable production and normalization of management."
