Training in Cancer Care:
Endoscopic Procedures, Cancer Surgeries, and Screening Systems
Southeast Radiation Oncology Center (Director Lee Changhun) announced on the 8th that it recently invited Dr. Batsukh Jargal, a colorectal surgeon from Mongolia's Allergy Medi Hospital, to complete a short-term overseas physician training program.
This training was conducted over eight days, from March 27 to April 3. During the program, Dr. Jargal observed endoscopic procedures (such as endoscopic submucosal dissection, polypectomy, and hemostasis) in the Department of Gastroenterology, participated in breast cancer surgeries and treatments in the Department of Breast Surgery, and toured the advanced cancer screening systems at the Cancer Prevention and Health Promotion Center, gaining diverse experience in the field of cancer care.
This training was part of ongoing medical cooperation between Korea and Mongolia that began in 2023. Southeast Radiation Oncology Center signed an agreement with Mongolia's Fourth Hospital in 2023, established a telemedicine center, and in 2024 signed agreements on medical technology exchange and clinical cooperation with Mongolia's Third National Hospital and Allergy Medi Hospital.
Subsequently, officials from Ulaanbaatar hospitals in Mongolia visited the center to discuss training and cooperation plans. Notably, this training was realized at the suggestion of Ayush Chogtsetseg, Director of Allergy Medi Hospital, and is considered a practical exchange to introduce Korea's advanced cancer treatment technologies to Mongolia.
At the completion ceremony, Dr. Jargal stated, "Based on the endoscopic techniques and various cancer treatment know-how I learned at Southeast Radiation Oncology Center, I will strive to improve the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers at Allergy Medi Hospital. I also hope to continue actively participating in the center's technology exchange and cooperation programs to substantially increase the treatment rate for cancer patients in Mongolia."
Lee Changhun, Director of Southeast Radiation Oncology Center, said, "We will continue to actively promote Korea's advanced cancer treatment technologies through cooperation with overseas medical institutions, including those in Mongolia, and seek to attract more international patients to Korea through our network with trained physicians."
Medical exchanges between Korea and Mongolia began in 2018 when Busan Metropolitan City and Busan Economic Promotion Agency actively promoted overseas expansion projects. Since then, hospitals in the Busan area, including Southeast Radiation Oncology Center, have established telemedicine centers in Mongolia, continuing practical cooperation.
The Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center held a completion ceremony for the short-term training of Mongolian doctors and is taking a commemorative photo.
