IBK Industrial Bank announced on the 8th that it will launch the 'AI Voice Phishing Damage and Detection Service,' which links financial and telecommunications information in collaboration with SK Telecom.
This service applies SKT's financial customer protection enhancement solution 'SurPASS' to the bank's voice phishing monitoring system to identify in real time whether customers receive or make voice phishing calls and assess the risk level. A safe personal information management and processing procedure was also established through a prior appropriateness review by the Personal Information Protection Commission.
Based on the collected telecommunications data, SKT defines the call patterns of voice phishing scammers and builds a suspicious number database through artificial intelligence (AI) learning. When a customer's suspicious voice phishing transaction occurs, IBK Industrial Bank checks in real time with the telecom company whether the customer has been exposed to voice phishing. If the voice phishing risk is high, the bank blocks the customer's transfers and withdrawals or provides guidance via phone to prevent damage in advance.
During the preliminary test period, a total of 26 cases and KRW 590 million in damages were prevented, and the company explained that there were cases where damage was prevented in advance solely based on high-risk information detected by SKT before financial transactions occurred.
Kim Gyuseop, Head of the Financial Consumer Protection Group at IBK Industrial Bank, said, "We have high expectations for this new attempt combining finance and telecommunications to create a society safe from voice phishing," adding, "If we combine customers' risk levels based on call records with financial information to create synergy, we will be able to protect more customers from voice phishing."
Kim Jihyung, Head of SKT Biz Platform Division, emphasized, "We will continue to actively support the prevention of financial accidents based on telecommunications data and AI technology."
