The international housing welfare nonprofit organization Korea Habitat announced on the 8th that YouTuber ‘Hamzy,’ who has 13.5 million subscribers, participated in a house-building volunteer activity for the descendants of independence activists and donated 10 million won.
Korea Habitat has been conducting housing environment improvement projects for the descendants of independence activists since 2017, providing comfortable homes to more than 127 households so far. Since 2020, it has held the donation marathon ‘815 Run’ campaign every year on Liberation Day in collaboration with singer Sean, and with the funds raised, it has dedicated 17 houses nationwide to date.
The household where YouTuber Hamzy volunteered is the 18th house of the ‘815 Run’ located in Goesan, Chungbuk, which will be dedicated to the descendants of independence activist An Wi-gyu. Notably, An Wi-gyu’s great-granddaughter personally applied to Korea Habitat with their story and was selected. The story stated, "The earthen house, built over 70 years ago, has mice running between the roof, and the house is full of mold. Despite the cold and harsh environment, my 90-year-old grandmother always lives with gratitude, and as her granddaughter, I wanted to help." Hamzy treated the wood with waterproofing, cut it to size, and made a deck, installing it at the house entrance. After the volunteer work, Hamzy donated 10 million won to the house-building project for the descendants of independence activists.
Hamzy said, "I live a country house life commuting to Goesan, and since there was a house-building site for the descendants of independence activists in Goesan, I was very honored to participate in the construction volunteer work." He added, "I hope this helps improve the housing environment for the descendants of independence activists, and I ask for your great interest in the independence activist house-building campaign." Korea Habitat expressed gratitude, saying, "We thank Hamzy for showing positive influence not only through volunteering but also through sponsorship, and we will transparently use the precious donations for the descendants of independence activists living in poor housing conditions." The volunteer site footage can be viewed on Korea Habitat’s and ‘Jibnagan Hamzy (Wandering Hamzy)’ YouTube channels on the same day.
