This Place Once Called a Paradise on Earth... Why Did the US Government Issue a "Danger" Warning? Bahamas. Bahamas Tourism Board

According to Fox News and other U.S. media, the U.S. Department of State recently issued a "Level 2 Travel Advisory" for the Bahamas. A Level 2 Travel Advisory indicates an "increased risk to safety and security," urging travelers to exercise heightened caution.

The U.S. Department of State stated, "Crimes such as sexual assault, armed robbery, and theft are frequently occurring on the islands of the Bahamas," emphasizing that "travelers should securely lock doors and windows of their accommodations and refuse visits from strangers."

Concerns were also raised regarding local boat operations and related safety issues. The U.S. Department of State pointed out that boat operators continue to run tours for tourists despite hazardous weather conditions, leading to ongoing incidents and accidents. Additionally, it noted that weak regulations by the Bahamian government have resulted in widespread accidents and injuries caused by faulty equipment.

In areas such as Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, and Freeport, violent crimes including sexual assaults on sandy beaches and burglaries of vacation homes have been occurring consecutively, indicating deteriorating public safety. Notably, gang-related killings of residents have also taken place in Nassau.

Shark attacks have also been occurring repeatedly, threatening the safety of tourists. In February, two Americans were bitten by sharks on a beach in the Bahamas, and in January of last year, a 10-year-old boy was bitten on the leg by a shark in a resort aquarium. In 2023, a woman paddling on a paddleboard was bitten by a shark and died.

The Bahamas is an island nation located in the North Atlantic Caribbean Sea, consisting of over 700 islands. Except for Mexico and Canada, it is the closest destination to the United States, making it a popular vacation spot for Americans.
