Kakao Makers' Social Contribution Activities
Opening Sales Channels for Farms... Resource Upcycling Projects
Kakao's impact commerce platform 'Kakao Makers' announced on the 8th that it has achieved a cumulative transaction amount of 1 trillion KRW nine years after its launch.
First introduced in 2016, Kakao Makers aims to be an impact commerce platform that brings positive changes to the environment and society through customer orders. It provides sales channels to producers and offers various products and benefits to consumers. So far, it has provided sales channels to over 8,200 manufacturers and creators, sold more than 36.5 million products, and over 3 million users have participated in group orders.
Kakao Makers continues various experiments that create positive changes not only in manufacturing but also across the environment and society, including the 'Jegabatchi' project that opens sales channels for farms, the 'Saegabatchi' project that recycles resources through customer participation, the 'Eco Seed' fund that links orders to solving social and environmental issues, and 'P.O.M (Peace Of Mind)', where all profits are donated to society.
Jegabatchi opens sales channels so that Korean agricultural, livestock, and fishery products and processed foods can receive their proper value. It reduces the burden on farmers and fishermen caused by overproduction, contributes to stabilizing supply and demand, and helps restore market prices. Approximately 7,000 tons of agricultural, livestock, and fishery products have met 2.31 million consumers and received their proper value. The cumulative transaction amount recorded 44.5 billion KRW, and recently, the range of items has expanded to include co-planned products and traditional market small business products, diversifying cooperation.
Saegabatchi is an eco-friendly activity that simultaneously involves donation and environmental protection. Starting with recycling old T-shirts in its first phase, it has recycled sweaters, shirts, coffee capsules, instant rice containers, and more over ten phases. To date, a total of 9.12 million items collected from about 100,000 customers have been recycled, and the sales proceeds have been donated for children and the environment.
This year, Kakao Makers operates a sterilized pack collection service year-round and plans to hold a nationwide sterilized pack recycling contest in June. It also plans to strengthen the 'One Day Trip' project, which introduces Korea's tourist attractions and contributes to revitalizing local economies, aiming to promote beautiful travel destinations nationwide.
Cho Chang-yeop, leader of Kakao Makers, said, "This is the result of producers and consumers acting together and striving for shared values," adding, "Going forward, Kakao Makers will continue to be an impact commerce platform that pursues continuous innovation and social contribution based on ESG management."
