Professor Seo Hyuk's Research Team at Honam University Wins 'Excellent Presentation Award' from the Korean Society of Engineering Geology

Professor Hyuk Seo's research team from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Honam University won the Excellence in Academic Presentation Award in the poster category at the 2025 Spring Conference of the Korean Geotechnical Society. Provided by Honam University

The research team led by Professor Seo Hyuk from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Honam University announced on the 8th that they received the Outstanding Academic Presentation Award in the poster category at the 2025 Spring Conference of the Korean Society of Geo-Engineering.

At the conference held for three days from the 2nd to the 4th at Hanwha Resort in Busan, Professor Seo Hyuk's research team presented a paper titled "Dynamic Stability Evaluation of Waste Landfill Ground Using a 1g Shaking Table." The research was conducted with the support of the "HUSS Sustainable Ground and Environmental Solution Program" from the Honam University Global Symbiosis Humanities and Social Sciences Convergence Talent Development Project Group. The experiment-based approach and practical topic selection were highly evaluated, earning the team this award.

During the spring conference, major public institutions such as Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation, Korea Rural Community Corporation, Korea Expressway Corporation, Korea National Oil Corporation, and Korea Water Resources Corporation participated. Students also attended job and entrepreneurship-related programs organized by the Korean Society of Geo-Engineering, gaining opportunities to strengthen their practical skills.

Jung Dongsoo, the student representative who participated in the research, said, "Thanks to Honam University's practice-oriented education, various extracurricular programs, and the continuous support of my academic advisor, I was able to carry out this research," adding, "It is very meaningful to achieve such results in this educational environment."

This award is an example that proves the excellence of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering's practical education system and undergraduate research support system. It is expected to have a positive impact on future industry-academia cooperation and student career planning. In addition to Jung Dongsoo, students Kim Minhwan, Kim Junghoon, and Lim Seungbin participated in the research.
