Citizen Safety First... Busan Transportation Corporation Accelerates Comprehensive Urban Rail Measures

Special Inspection of Line 4, Comprehensive Safety Assessment Across All Lines
Accident Prevention and Response Systems to Be Fully Enhanced by May

Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) announced on the 8th that it is currently establishing a comprehensive stabilization plan covering key areas such as electricity, machinery, and signaling to enhance the overall safety of the urban railway system and alleviate public concerns. A more systematic and comprehensive plan is scheduled to be finalized by the end of May.

This initiative is being pursued as a proactive response to recent unusual incidents that have occurred on certain lines. The corporation is implementing practical improvement measures across nine core sectors, including electricity, machinery, signaling, communications, rolling stock, and structures. These measures include: △ identifying major risk factors through an analysis of accident and failure types over the past five years △ eliminating risk factors through joint safety inspections by internal and external experts △ reorganizing investment plans based on rigorous performance evaluations of vehicles and facilities △ and a complete overhaul of response manuals in the event of malfunctions.

In particular, for Line 4, where a recent service suspension occurred, special training and a revision of response manuals will be completed by the end of April, with additional facility reinforcement and maintenance measures to be implemented as necessary. Comprehensive safety inspections are also being conducted across all lines to thoroughly review the operation and maintenance management systems.

To enhance the effectiveness of these stabilization efforts, the corporation has formed the "Urban Railway Stabilization Task Force" led by the Chief of the Technology Innovation Headquarters. The task force operates in detailed sectors such as △ electricity and machinery △ signaling and communications △ electronics △ rolling stock △ and structures, tracks, and architecture, working closely with external experts to analyze and inspect risk factors from multiple perspectives.

Based on the results of performance evaluations of vehicles and facilities, those rated C grade or below will be prioritized for improvement and upgraded sequentially. The corporation also plans to further enhance system reliability by adjusting the replacement and maintenance cycles of key components.

Additionally, for more fundamental improvements, the corporation will comprehensively revise procedures for rescuing malfunctioning trains, facility maintenance operations, and on-site response manuals to ensure that public safety remains the highest priority even in emergency situations.

Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, "There can be no compromise when it comes to protecting the safety of our citizens," adding, "Through the establishment of this comprehensive plan, we will enhance the reliability of urban railway operations and provide a service that citizens can always use with peace of mind."
