LG Innotek Accelerates 'Smart Factory' Construction in Partnership with Intel

LG Innotek and Intel Sign MOU for AI Vision Inspection Collaboration
Smart Factory Implementation Accelerates with i-GPU-Based AI Solution
Vision Inspection Accuracy Expected to Reach Nearly 100 Percent
Cost Competitiveness to Improve Through Smart Factory Expansion

LG Innotek is accelerating the establishment of smart factories using artificial intelligence (AI) by partnering with Intel.

LG Innotek announced on the 8th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Intel for cooperation in the AI vision inspection field. Vision inspection is a process of checking for abnormalities by examining the appearance of products in the production process, where cameras and other devices replace human roles. Recently, it has been advancing by utilizing AI and is being applied to various production processes in manufacturing to reduce product defect rates.

Through this collaboration, LG Innotek plans to apply Intel’s AI vision inspection solution based on i-GPU (integrated Graphics Processing Unit) to all production processes. The i-GPU is a GPU embedded in the central processing unit (CPU), enabling easy implementation of AI functions without expensive external GPUs or additional PC installations.

LG Innotek expects to increase the accuracy of vision inspection judgments to nearly 100% by developing AI learning models using Intel AI solutions. Last year, the company first applied Intel’s AI vision inspection solution to the mobile camera module production line, and this year plans to gradually expand it to production lines such as the Gumi Plant 4, a production base for FC-BGA (Flip-Chip Ball Grid Array).

LG Innotek also plans to accelerate cost competitiveness through smart factory establishment. It will further strengthen cooperation with Intel for future production process intelligence and advancement.

Lee Sang-seok, Head of LG Innotek’s Production Innovation Center, said, “Collaboration with Intel has enabled us to accelerate the establishment of smart factories. We will continue to strengthen our partnership with Intel and consistently create differentiated customer value through production innovation.”

Kim Hyun-joon, Head of Intel Korea’s Sales Division, said, “Intel is leading digital innovation in the manufacturing industry with cutting-edge vision inspection AI solutions. We will continue to seek various collaborations to enhance LG Innotek’s quality and cost competitiveness.”
