"Correcting Misguided Dog Behavior"... Gangseo-gu Offers Free Training on a First-Come, First-Served Basis

Applications Must Be Submitted by the 18th of This Month

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) will provide free support for the "2025 Companion Dog Behavior Correction Training" to residents struggling with problem behaviors of their companion dogs.


The training will be offered in two formats: 1:1 customized behavior correction and group behavior correction. The 1:1 customized behavior correction will be conducted for a total of 50 households, where professional trainers will visit the applicant’s home or preferred location for training, considering their convenience.

Tailored solutions will be provided for problem behaviors such as aggression, toileting issues, and separation anxiety in companion dogs. Additionally, pet etiquette education will be conducted for pet owners to prevent conflicts among neighbors related to companion dogs. The training will be held three times per household between April and November this year, with each session lasting 90 minutes.


The group behavior correction consists of improving dogs’ social skills, walking training, and pet etiquette education, and will take place at the companion dog shelter in Hwanggeumnae Neighborhood Park (221-40 Heojun-ro). It will be conducted for a total of 40 households, divided into 20 households in May and 20 households in September. The program will be run in four classes of 10 dogs each, with each class held three times, 90 minutes per session.


Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis by the 18th of this month. Any household residing in Gangseo-gu with registered animals can apply. More details can be found on the Gangseo-gu Office website (Notices/News).


Meanwhile, the district currently operates three companion dog shelters and plans to create an additional dog playground. It also intends to strengthen animal welfare by promoting support projects for adoption fees of lost and abandoned animals.


Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon stated, “Through this training, we expect to resolve difficulties caused by companion dog problem behaviors and contribute to harmony with households that do not own pets. We will do our best to foster a mature companion animal culture where everyone can be happy.”
