Marathon, Cycling, and Track and Field Events to Be Held Consecutively in Naju

Large-scale national sports events will be held consecutively in Naju, Jeollanam-do.

With a large influx of visitors, including spring tourists and participating athletes, expected in April and May, these events are anticipated to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy and tourism.

According to Naju City on the 8th, starting with the Jeonnam Southwest Gateball Tournament on the 1st, a total of nine competitions will be held in the region throughout April.

On the 6th, the 11th Naju Yeongsangang Marathon brought together about 5,000 marathoners from across the country, who ran along the Yeongsangang riverside in full bloom with cherry blossoms.

A major event featuring the nation's most prestigious cycling competition along the Yeongsangang premium bike path is also drawing attention.

The 42nd Presidential National Cycling Competition, the second largest cycling event after the National Sports Festival, will take place in Naju for six days from the 12th to the 17th.

About 450 cyclists from all over the country, aspiring to become national representatives, will compete fiercely in Naju.

The '2025 Yeongsangang Granfondo in Naju,' now in its third year, will be held on the 26th.

Granfondo, an Italian term, refers to a non-competitive cycling event for enthusiasts and is divided into two categories.

The Granfondo course covers 125.4 km, and the Mediofondo covers 104.1 km, both starting from the Yeongsangang Riverside Sports Park. Participants can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Yeongsangang in Naju and the essence of spring, making it a highly anticipated event among cycling enthusiasts nationwide.

From April 30th to May 2nd, the National Business Track and Field Championships will be held at Naju General Sports Park, where top business athletes from across the country will heat up the track.

With 22 men's events, 22 women's events, and 2 mixed events, a total of 46 events will bring about 600 athletes to Naju.

In particular, attention is focused on whether Shin Somang, a member of the Naju City Hall track and field team and a national women's representative, will win double titles in her main events, the 800m and 1500m.

Mayor Yoon Byungtae of Naju said, "Large-scale sports events heralding the arrival of spring, held in Naju with the pristine natural environment of the Yeongsangang and excellent sports infrastructure, will invigorate the local economy."
