Strong Winds Nationwide Until the 8th
Less Than 5mm of Rain in Central Regions Except for the East Coast
A dry weather advisory has been reissued for parts of Yeongnam that recently experienced large wildfires. With strong winds blowing, the risk of fire is high, so extra caution is required.
On the morning of the 7th, a dry weather advisory was issued for Daegu (excluding Gunwi), Gyeongsan and Pohang in Gyeongbuk, Miryang in Gyeongnam, Ulsan, and the mountainous areas of Jeju. A dry weather advisory is issued when the effective humidity, which indicates the dryness of trees and other vegetation, is expected to remain below 35% for more than two days. Generally, an effective humidity below 50% is considered a condition prone to fire.
Strong gusts of wind with instantaneous speeds of 55 km/h (70 km/h in mountainous areas) are expected nationwide until the 8th, so special caution is necessary. In Ulsan, in addition to the dry weather advisory, a strong wind advisory has also been issued, with gusts exceeding 70 km/h expected until the morning of the 8th. From the night of the 7th, strong winds of similar intensity to Ulsan will blow in the mountainous areas of Gangwon, the East Coast, the northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk, and the East Coast of Gyeongbuk. Rain is forecast overnight, but it will mainly fall in central regions and in small amounts.
From late night on the 7th, light rain less than 5 mm is expected in the central regions excluding the East Coast, starting from the Seoul metropolitan area and the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, continuing until early morning on the 8th. During the rain, gusty winds, thunder, and lightning may occur. Additionally, yellow dust originating from the Inner Mongolian Plateau will be carried by northwesterly winds and may mix with the rain overnight.
There is also rain expected nationwide on Wednesday the 9th. On the morning of the 8th, the lowest temperatures will range from 5 to 13 degrees Celsius, and the highest temperatures from 16 to 24 degrees Celsius, maintaining levels 2 to 5 degrees higher than the average for this time of year.
The expected minimum and maximum temperatures for major cities are Seoul 9°C and 19°C, Incheon 8°C and 16°C, Daejeon 11°C and 21°C, Gwangju 10°C and 22°C, Daegu 11°C and 23°C, Ulsan 12°C and 23°C, and Busan 12°C and 20°C. Air quality on the 8th is expected to be 'moderate' nationwide and not poor, but from daytime, due to the influence of yellow dust, fine dust (PM10) concentrations in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, Chungcheong, and Honam regions may temporarily rise to 'unhealthy' levels.
Fine dust concentrations are expected to decrease as northwesterly winds without yellow dust begin to flow in at night. Ozone levels will be dense and reach unhealthy levels in most areas including the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, Chungcheong, Honam, and Yeongnam.
