'Yoon Again' Campaign Spreads
Claims of "Fraudulent Impeachment" and Calls to "Disband the Constitutional Court"
After the Constitutional Court's ruling to dismiss former President Yoon Seok-yeol, movements opposing the impeachment have been detected.
According to online communities on the 7th, a campaign called Yoon Again is spreading. It expresses opposition to the Constitutional Court's decision and insists that former President Yoon should run again in the next presidential election.
On the 8th, Jayu University, a coalition of over 40 university students nationwide opposing former President Yoon's impeachment, will march from Itaewon Station in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to the official residence in Hannam-dong.
The Korea Righting Movement Headquarters (Daegukbon), led by Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church, held the 'People's Resistance Rights Gwanghwamun Rally' on the afternoon of the 5th around Dongwha Duty Free Shop to Daehanmun in Jongno-gu. According to unofficial police estimates at 2 p.m., 18,000 people participated. The organizers claimed that 1 million people gathered.
Participants in the rally shouted slogans such as "Fraudulent impeachment is null and void" and "Disband the Constitutional Court" while holding umbrellas or wearing raincoats. They held placards or attached signs to umbrellas with phrases like "Eradicate anti-state forces" and "Invoke people's resistance rights," urging the return of former President Yoon. On the stage, the eight constitutional court justices were criticized as "traitors."
They stated that they cannot accept an early presidential election. One participant said, "Is impeachment even reasonable?" and another said, "There is no need for an early election in June." The host said, "Shouldn't we refuse the election and fight to the death until the truth of the fraudulent impeachment is revealed and the president returns?"
Currently, Pastor Jeon has been reported 11 times on charges including incitement of rebellion, disturbance, special trespassing, and damage to special public property related to the Seobu District Court riot incident. However, the police investigation is sluggish. A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official said at a regular press briefing that day, "We are not looking at just one of Pastor Jeon's crimes," and added, "We are reviewing the legal grounds and proceeding with the process according to the elements of the crimes."
