Sado, the Island of Dinosaurs, Now Accessible on Foot
A New Opportunity to Revitalize Local Tourism
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Chung Kimyung) announced on the 7th that the "Sado-Nangdo Ecological Exploration Tourism Resource Development Project" has recently passed the final review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Central Investment Review Committee for local finance.
As a result, construction of the pedestrian bridge connecting Sado and Nangdo can begin this year, with completion targeted for 2028.
This project will invest a total of 36 billion KRW to build a pedestrian bridge measuring 892 meters in length and 3 meters in width in the area of 499-24, Nangdori, Hwajeong-myeon.
Once the pedestrian bridge is installed, visitors will be able to conveniently tour both the "Dinosaur Footprint Fossil Site" on Sado, designated as a Natural Monument, and the "Mystical Sea Road" that appears between Sado and Chudo when the sea parts?all accessible by land. This is expected to not only enhance convenience for island tourism but also improve residential conditions for island residents.
Previously, the city passed the Jeollanam-do local finance investment review in 2023, but due to increased foundation construction costs caused by the distribution of submarine sediment layers, the project was included in the central investment review.
A city official stated, "With the approval from the central investment review, we can now accelerate the project. We will ensure the project is completed without any setbacks through prompt administrative procedures, and in particular, we will focus on cultural heritage preservation to strengthen our competitiveness as a sustainable island marine tourism city."
