"We Must Put Forward a People's Candidate to Win an Unfavorable Presidential Election"
Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, who is mentioned as a potential presidential candidate for the People Power Party, proposed a fully open primary system for deciding the party's presidential candidate on the 7th.
Yoo stated through social media (SNS) on the same day, "From now on, all party decisions must focus on how to win the presidential election and how to defeat Lee Jae-myung."
Yoo said, "Only a presidential candidate who has the support of the public, a 'people's candidate,' can defeat Lee Jae-myung," adding, "As the party name 'Gungminuihim' (People Power Party) suggests, we must put forward a 'people's candidate' who the public wants to create hope for victory in a presidential election that is absolutely unfavorable after the impeachment."
He suggested revising the current People Power Party primary rule of "50% party member votes and 50% general public opinion polls" to reflect 100% public sentiment.
He emphasized, "The winning formula in the 2021 by-election was 100% public sentiment, the 'people's candidate.' Victory in the center is victory in the war," and urged, "I call on the party leadership and the election commission to honor the will of the people through a fully open primary."
Meanwhile, the People Power Party appointed former emergency committee chairman Hwang Woo-yeo as the election commission chairman to manage the party primary and officially entered the early presidential election system on the same day.
