Gwangju City is providing a variety of services and comprehensive support to prevent missing incidents and enable early detection for elderly people with dementia.

According to the city on the 7th, various services are being offered to prevent missing incidents among elderly dementia patients who tend to go out more frequently during the spring. These include the distribution of attachable identification tags for seniors at risk of wandering, pre-registration of fingerprints and photos of dementia patients with the National Police Agency system, and the free provision of wandering detection devices. In addition, the city operates the 'Dementia Check App Wandering Detection Service,' which allows real-time location tracking of dementia patients via a smartphone app.

In fact, last year the city distributed 607 identification tags and 893 wandering detection devices to prevent missing incidents among elderly dementia patients. Notably, the smart tag-type wandering detection devices can be easily attached to items such as shoes, bags, or clothes, and caregivers can check the real-time location through a dedicated mobile app. This not only helps prevent missing incidents but also greatly assists in the quick discovery of patients in case they go missing.

These various missing prevention services for elderly dementia patients are available to anyone registered at the public health center's Dementia Safety Center. The Dementia Safety Center at the public health center also offers a range of services, including hygiene supplies such as diapers for dementia patients, cognitive rehabilitation programs, and dementia treatment management expenses for low-income families. In addition, free dementia screening tests are provided to help any citizen detect dementia early. For more detailed information on dementia-related services, please contact your nearest public health center's Dementia Safety Center.

Bae Kangsook, head of the Health and Hygiene Department, said, "We hope that families caring for elderly dementia patients will register at the public health center's Dementia Safety Center to receive various free services," and added, "We plan to continuously expand support for dementia patients and their families in the future."
