Police to Decide on 'No Prosecution' for Jang Jewon

The police are considering applying charges other than incitement of rebellion against Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church.

A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official stated at a regular press briefing on the 7th, "We are not looking at only one charge against Pastor Jeon," adding, "We are reviewing the legal grounds and examining the charges according to the elements of the offense and proceeding with the process."

According to the police, Pastor Jeon has been reported 11 times on charges including incitement and propaganda of rebellion, as well as riot, special trespassing of a building, and damage to special public property, related to the disturbance at the Seoul Western District Court.

The police have completed investigations of 11 complainants and 12 witnesses, and are currently analyzing the interrogation records of suspects involved in the Western District Court disturbance to trace connections.

A police official emphasized, "We plan to keep all possibilities open and proceed with the investigation."

Meanwhile, the police plan to decide on 'no prosecution' regarding former People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won, who was found dead while under investigation for sexual assault charges.

Currently, the complainant's legal representative argues that even though former lawmaker Jang has passed away, the investigation itself should continue to ascertain the facts.
