Cheonan City Issues Administrative Order Restricting Activities to Prevent Wildfires

Up to 1 Million KRW Fine for Entering Mountains, Burning Activities, or Smoking Near Forests

Cheonan City in Chungnam Province announced on the 7th that it has issued an administrative order restricting activities to prevent wildfires, following the declaration of the national wildfire disaster crisis alert at the 'Severe' level.

The city issued the administrative order considering that strong winds and dry weather could cause even a small spark to develop into a large-scale wildfire.

This administrative order will remain in effect until further notice, and prohibits entering the mountains, burning activities, and smoking in areas adjacent to forests throughout the city.

The city plans to impose a fine of up to 1 million KRW on violators of the administrative order in accordance with the Forest Protection Act and the Waste Management Act, and will file criminal charges if a wildfire occurs as a result.

A city official emphasized, "A moment of carelessness can lead to a major disaster," and added, "We will strengthen enforcement of the administrative order throughout the city to prevent large-scale wildfires."
