Choi Jun-yong, Vice President of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) Business Planning at SK Hynix, said in an interview with the company's newsroom on the 7th, "This year, we will not only proceed with mass production of 12-layer HBM4, the 6th generation HBM, but also supply the 7th generation HBM4E in a timely manner to further solidify our HBM leadership."

Vice President Choi stated, "Alongside the development of new HBMs, we will provide optimal solutions for various customer demands through custom HBMs tailored to specialized customer requirements."
Born in 1982, Vice President Choi was appointed as the youngest executive overseeing HBM business planning at the end of last year. He is a key figure who has mainly led the growth of the HBM business, having served as the head of the mobile DRAM product planning team before taking charge of HBM business planning. The HBM business planning team led by Vice President Choi is a core organization that decides on large-scale investments and strategic directions. It plays an important role across the entire HBM business, from establishing technology development roadmaps to preparing strategies necessary for collaboration with global customers.
Vice President Choi said, "We have patiently prepared for the HBM market over a long period. I believe that as a result of all members quietly continuing their challenges with a one-team spirit, we have created an opportunity to successfully develop HBM4."
He added, "We will do our best to proactively prepare the market and carry out optimized business planning."
Earlier last month, SK Hynix supplied 12-layer HBM4 samples to major customers several months ahead of the original schedule, becoming the first in the world to do so. SK Hynix plans to mass-produce the product in the second half of this year and accelerate the development of HBM4E going forward.
Meanwhile, the proportion of HBM in SK Hynix’s total DRAM sales is expected to exceed 50% this year. In the fourth quarter of last year, the HBM sales ratio was over 40%. After selling out the HBM volume for this year, it is expected that next year’s volume will also be sold out during the first half of this year due to the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) demand. Next year’s volume is known to include not only the 5th generation HBM, HBM3E 12-layer products, but also 12-layer HBM4 products.
