Gumi University Cycling Team Races to Gold at National Competition, Wins Four Gold Medals

A Total of Eight Medals at the Incheon Mayor's Cup National Cycling Competition
Set to Compete in the Asian Games National Team Selection Trials

The Gumi University cycling team in North Gyeongsang Province made a remarkable showing at the 24th Incheon Mayor's Cup National Cycling Competition, winning a total of eight medals, including four gold medals.

This competition was held in Incheon Metropolitan City from March 29 to April 2, jointly hosted and organized by the Korea Cycling Federation and the Incheon Cycling Federation.


The Gumi University cycling team once again proved its status as a prestigious university cycling team by showcasing outstanding skills in this competition, which brought together top teams from across the country.


The most outstanding athlete was Hong Youngtaek, a student in the Department of Sports Guidance at Gumi University, who became a double gold medalist by winning first place in both the men's university scratch and individual pursuit events.


He also won silver medals in the team pursuit and team sprint events, earning a total of four medals.


Hong is scheduled to compete in the national team selection trials for the 2026 Hangzhou Asian Games, which will be held in April 2025, drawing attention to whether he will be selected for the national team.


In addition, Chu Jongmin won gold in the elimination race, and Park Jihae took first place in the women's university 1Lap, each adding a gold medal. Silver medals were awarded to Choi Jeongmyeong for second place in the men's university individual time trial, the team of Choi Jeongmyeong, Hwang Jeongwoo, Hong Youngtaek, and Chu Jongmin for second place in the team pursuit, and Kim Hyunwoo, Hong Youngtaek, and Hwang Jeongwoo for second place in the team sprint. Hwang Jeongwoo also took bronze in the elimination race, finishing third.


Kim Seung, head of the Department of Sports Guidance, said, "I am very pleased that the athletes' hard work has paid off," adding, "We will continue to provide training and support so that our athletes can achieve great results in both domestic and international competitions."


Meanwhile, Gumi University operates a variety of sports teams, including cycling, soccer, baseball, and volleyball, striving to nurture professional athletes and promote the development of regional sports.
