Hyundai Mobis Expands Integration of India Research Center... Establishes SW R&D Hub

24,000㎡ SW Hub Established in Hyderabad
To Be Fostered as a Global SW Hub...
Increasing Independent Development of Local Vehicle Models

Hyundai Mobis is expanding its India research center as a strategic hub for vehicle software (SW) research and development. As the number of products equipped with SW in Hyundai Mobis's major order items increases, the company plans to enhance the role of its India research center in interpreting and verifying these products.

On the 7th, Hyundai Mobis announced the integrated opening of a specialized SW research hub in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

Since establishing its first India research center in 2007, Hyundai Mobis built and operated a second research center in 2020. With the recent increase in SW R&D personnel, the company has prepared this large-scale research facility to maximize synergy by integrating the previously dispersed research hubs.

The integrated research hub, located in the heart of Hyderabad, known as the Silicon Valley of India, has a total floor area of approximately 24,000㎡. It is situated in a commercial area densely populated with major global IT companies, providing favorable conditions for securing excellent SW talent. The 10-story building includes research spaces, a data center, testing rooms, training rooms, partner company workspaces, and rest facilities for employees.

Hyundai Mobis established this integrated SW research hub to respond to the rapidly growing Indian market. According to global research organizations, new car sales in India are about 5.2 million units, ranking third worldwide. Sales are expected to grow to approximately 6.2 million units annually by 2028. Particularly, as the Indian automotive market shifts from small cars to sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and electric vehicles, the application of new autonomous driving level 2 features such as large displays and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) is becoming more active.

To this end, Hyundai Mobis plans to develop the India research center into an R&A hub that drives product cost competitiveness, performance, quality, and technology based on its abundant SW development workforce. The company intends to create an external ecosystem by collaborating with nearby vehicle SW companies in Hyderabad and continuously recruiting outstanding talent.

Through this, Hyundai Mobis aims to nurture the India research center as a global SW hub with independent business capabilities and further utilize it as an advanced base providing integrated solutions to overseas automakers.

Going forward, Hyundai Mobis will increase the participation of the India research center from the early stages of new product development, develop local vehicle SW independently in India, and focus on productivity efficiency through the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI), thereby expanding the scope of SW research and development at the India research center.

Lee Jong-geun, head of Hyundai Mobis India research center, said, "The India research center has a wide developer pool, making it a place where many new R&D attempts are made. Based on nearly 20 years of mass production vehicle development experience, we will promote SW advancement and contribute to enhancing product competitiveness."
