[Yoon Seok-yeol Impeachment] Democrats Demand "Swift Investigation of Yoon and Kim Geon-hee"... Special Prosecutor Bill to Be Reintroduced

The Democratic Party of Korea on the 6th called on investigative agencies such as the prosecution to "swiftly and thoroughly investigate the civilians Yoon Seok-yeol and Kim Geon-hee, respectively."

Kang Yoo-jung, the Democratic Party floor spokesperson, said in a written briefing that "the prosecution, police, and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials must promptly and thoroughly carry out the remaining investigations related to the crime of insurrection."

Spokesperson Kang emphasized, "There is a mountain of cases where the truth has not been uncovered due to obstruction by power, including allegations of interference in candidate selection related to Myung Tae-gyun, the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case involving Kim Geon-hee, and suspicions of external pressure in the death of a Marine Corps soldier."

She added, "Now that Yoon Seok-yeol and Kim Geon-hee, who acted as kings at the pinnacle of unjust power, have become private citizens, investigations must be conducted solely based on law and principles," and urged, "Show the equality, strictness, and fairness of the law. That is the way to restore the trust of shaken institutions on their own."

Spokesperson Kang requested "a thorough investigation that meets the public's expectations," and added, "The Democratic Party will accelerate the truth-finding process through the re-deliberation and re-proposal of related special prosecution laws."

Earlier, special prosecution laws on insurrection and Myung Tae-gyun, led by the opposition, passed the National Assembly plenary session, but are now awaiting a re-vote in the National Assembly following the exercise of the veto power by Acting President Choi Sang-mok at the time.
