Proposal for Candidate Selection
with Participation of Political Parties and Civil Society
through a One-Shot Method
The Joguk Innovation Party reiterated its proposal for an opposition unified open primary (complete national primary) ahead of the early presidential election on the 6th.
Kim Seon-min, Acting Representative of the Joguk Innovation Party, held a press conference at the National Assembly on the same day and said, "The upcoming presidential election must result in an overwhelming victory for the democratic progressive camp."
Earlier, on the 3rd of last month, the Innovation Party proposed an open primary in which members of all political parties and civil society could participate without restrictions and select a candidate through a 'one-shot' method. Following the impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 4th, the party once again proposed the open primary plan to the opposition, including the Democratic Party of Korea.
Acting Representative Kim stated, "A party that produced an impeached president twice is now claiming victory in the presidential election again," and argued, "Only by achieving an overwhelming regime change can the civil war be completely ended."

He added, "Not all citizens who opposed the civil war and supported the impeachment overwhelmingly support the existing opposition. In this situation, we must unite various classes and generations who have come forward with cheering sticks."
He also emphasized, "During the 2017 candlelight rallies, a stable majority coalition should have been established. If that had happened, the emergence of the civil war would not have occurred. The starting point for creating a new true majority coalition is the open primary."
Acting Representative Kim urged, "Above all, I call for the Democratic Party's decision. I hope they consider whether they will be a candidate within the Democratic Party or a candidate representing the entire constitutional protection forces."
He appealed to all other parties as well, saying, "We must nominate 'our candidate,' not 'someone's candidate,' and create 'our president.' That is the will of the people who risked their lives to protect the constitution."
