Mentions Resigning as Mayor Next Week
Hong Joon-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, reiterated his intention to run early in the presidential election on the 6th.
On that day, Mayor Hong said through his social media service (SNS) Facebook, "I am heading to Seoul in search of my last dream."
He said, "This is my 25th move. Just like 53 years ago when I took a night train from Dongdaegu Station to Seoul, this time I am taking a high-speed train to Seoul."

He also mentioned resigning from his mayoral position to run for president. Mayor Hong said, "Next week looks like it will be a very busy week. On Tuesday, I will go around to say farewell. On Thursday, I will visit the city council, which has monitored and supported the city administration, to say goodbye," adding, "On Friday, I plan to express my gratitude to the employees of Daegu City Hall."
Earlier, on the 5th, Mayor Hong hinted at his candidacy on Facebook, saying, "It is time for South Korea, which has sprinted through modernization and democratization into an advanced country era, to leap forward once again and open the era of the 7th Republic and an advanced great nation for the next 100 years of Korea."
He stated, "I have considered this my last mission in my over 30 years of political life and have prepared thoroughly. Starting next week, I will follow the procedures step by step and stand before the people again."
