Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) will conduct a comprehensive inspection of flood control facilities and flood-prone areas to prepare for summer flood and wind disasters.
Since the end of February, the district has been carrying out phased inspections of flood control facilities, flood-prone areas, and infrastructure throughout the district, and will thoroughly prevent flood and wind disasters through supplementation and improvement work by May.
The main inspection targets include a total of 735 sites: ▲public and private construction sites (19 locations) ▲rivers (2 locations) ▲pump stations (3 locations) ▲retention basins (4 locations) ▲slopes, underground, and protruding facilities (708 locations), where comprehensive inspections and maintenance will be conducted.
Since February, the district has been conducting the first phase of inspections led by the relevant departments, and any issues found are immediately addressed on site.
For unresolved issues from the first phase, a second phase of joint inspections with external experts is planned.
Additionally, if serious defects such as ▲structural cracks ▲collapse ▲overturning are discovered based on the inspection results, emergency measures and counterplans will be prepared. In urgent situations, disaster management funds will be utilized to complete all measures before the rainy season to ensure the safety of residents.
Gwanak-gu was selected as the ‘Best Autonomous District’ among Seoul’s autonomous districts in the 2024 Seoul City Flood and Wind Disaster Safety Measures Promotion Evaluation.
The district was recognized for proactive responses and resident-participatory disaster prevention policies, including the operation of the public-private joint ‘Donghaeng Partner’ program to assist rapid evacuation and escape of disaster-vulnerable households such as semi-basement homes, the operation of two ‘Flood Control Bases’?the first on-site offices in flood-prone areas in Seoul?and the ‘10cm Rainwater Collection Project’ installing facilities to reduce rainwater runoff.
District Mayor Park Jun-hee emphasized, “We will do our best to protect residents’ lives and property from summer flood and wind disasters. We will cooperate with all related departments to conduct swift and thorough inspections to reduce casualties caused by flood and wind disasters to zero and ensure a safe summer.”
