Ioniq 5, EV6, and Other Dedicated Electric Vehicles Drive Sales
The cumulative domestic sales of electric vehicles by Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, and Genesis have surpassed 500,000 units. It has been 14 years since Hyundai Motor Company delivered the first mass-produced domestic electric vehicle, the 'BlueOn,' in July 2011, and dedicated electric vehicles have driven strong sales. Dedicated electric vehicles refer to cars that adopt an electric vehicle-exclusive platform from the design stage, rather than electrified models that mount electric powertrains on internal combustion engine platforms.
According to Hyundai Motor Company and Kia on the 6th, the cumulative domestic sales of electric vehicles by Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, and Genesis totaled 502,036 units as of March. Sales by brand were 291,608 units for Hyundai Motor Company (including Genesis) and 210,428 units for Kia. Domestic electric vehicle sales of Hyundai Motor Company and Kia sharply increased starting with the launch of the Ioniq 5 and EV6, which are based on Hyundai Motor Company's self-developed dedicated electric vehicle platform 'E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform)' in 2021. That year, electric vehicle sales for the two brands increased by 160% compared to the previous year (27,548 units), reaching 71,447 units.

This year, Hyundai Motor Company announced it will continue this sales growth trend by introducing the flagship SUV Ioniq 9, and Kia will launch the electrified sedan EV4. The facelifted model of the Ioniq 6, The New Ioniq 6, Kia's first PBV model PV5, and the compact electric SUV EV5 are also set to debut soon.
