Seocho Culture and Arts Center Renovates Elevator and Giant LED Display Screen

An elevator and a giant LED display board have been installed at the Seocho Culture and Arts Center, a cutting-edge cultural facility in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

On the 6th, Seocho-gu announced that through seismic reinforcement and remodeling work at the Seocho Culture and Arts Center, a three-sided glass open-type elevator and a 512-inch L-shaped LED media display board were installed on the exterior wall.

The Seocho Culture and Arts Center, completed in 1989 and now celebrating its 37th anniversary, is a four-story building that had no elevator until now, causing inconvenience for visitors using the facility. Although residents had continuously requested the installation of an elevator, it was not realized due to the building’s aging condition and difficulty in ensuring safety.

Accordingly, since 2022, the district secured structural safety through seismic reinforcement work and proceeded with construction based on a design that attaches the elevator to the building’s exterior wall.

Along with this, the front part of the building was also fully remodeled. The LED display board installed on the exterior wall can broadcast performances held in the internal art hall and promote district projects. Additionally, the location of the stairs and the disabled ramp, which previously led from the side entrance to the road and posed a high risk, were moved to the front of the building to better accommodate pedestrians with mobility challenges.

The fourth-floor book cafe is also opening this time. Inside, three conference rooms (seminar rooms) have been created for paid rental use, and the space will be open at night and on Saturdays so that anyone can comfortably use it.

Through this remodeling, the district hopes that the Seocho Culture and Arts Center will be reborn as a ‘meeting plaza with culture and arts’ where anyone visiting Yangjae Station can come, meet, enjoy, and relax.

Meanwhile, in August of last year, Seocho-gu introduced an immersive sound system that allows visitors to experience surround and three-dimensional sound, as well as a reverberation variable system optimized for the performance hall, transforming the center into a state-of-the-art cultural facility implementing these two systems for the first time nationwide.

Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “The long-cherished wish of residents for 37 years has finally been fulfilled with the installation of this elevator,” and added, “We will continue to upgrade cultural infrastructure to create Seocho as a cultural and arts city where culture flows in everyday life.”
