Starting from Labor Day on May 1st, followed by Children's Day and Buddha's Birthday, the golden holiday period is expected to last until the substitute holiday on May 6th. By taking just one day off on Friday the 2nd, people can enjoy a total of six consecutive days off. During this time, a survey revealed that overseas travel demand was concentrated in Europe and the Americas.

Based on an analysis of travel reservation data (departure date) from May 1st to May 6th, Kyowon Tour Travel Agency announced the 'Golden Holiday Overseas Travel Trends.' The travel trends during this period can be summarized as ▲ preference for long-distance travel ▲ concentration of family travel demand in Southeast Asia ▲ strong demand for scenic spots in China ▲ and a decline in Japan's popularity.

First, Europe accounted for 21.4% of total reservations, making it the most popular travel destination during the golden holiday. This is attributed to increased demand for long-distance travel by adding annual leave to the holidays. Western Europe, which boasts high popularity, and Northern Europe, which has gained interest through various travel entertainment programs, showed a high proportion of reservations.

Vietnam ranked second with 16.1%, driven by family travel demand. This is interpreted as families with children choosing Vietnam, including Nha Trang, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc, to celebrate Children's Day. Nha Trang and Phu Quoc showed a high proportion of free travel package reservations. It is analyzed that many family customers seek to enjoy leisure at luxury resorts.

China, showing solid growth after implementing visa-free entry, ranked third with 13.3%. Particularly, Zhangjiajie and Baekdu Mountain led the increase in demand. The rise in demand for scenic spot tourism was boosted by the warmer weather. While Southeast Asia absorbed family travel demand during the golden holiday, city travel destinations such as Shanghai, Qingdao, and Dalian showed a lower proportion.

Thailand, another popular Southeast Asian travel destination along with Vietnam, ranked fourth (12.7%), and Taiwan, favored by various age groups, ranked fifth (7.6%).

Japan, which had previously enjoyed high popularity, ranked sixth with 7.5%. The strong yen is believed to have affected the slowdown in new demand.

Additionally, Australia ranked seventh with 5.3%. Australia’s advantage lies in the relatively short travel schedules and comparatively affordable package prices. Other destinations ranking eighth to tenth were Saipan (3.3%), Singapore (2.4%), and Mongolia (2.3%), respectively.

A representative from Kyowon Tour stated, "During this May golden holiday, by using just one day of annual leave, people can take up to six days off, and overseas travel demand is continuously increasing. Considering the lead time (the period between booking and actual travel), new reservations are expected to concentrate on short-distance travel destinations such as Southeast Asia, China, Japan, and Taiwan."
