Various Comments from People Around the World After Reading Major Global Media Reports
Nuances Satirizing or Criticizing the U.S. Political Situation

People around the world who learned about the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol through major global media expressed envy.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) in the United States featured Yoon's resignation as a major article in its world section on the 4th (local time). A comment read, "I envy South Korea. We wish we could put our presidents who commit serious crimes in prison too."

"If We Had Done the Same, the Market Wouldn't Have Collapsed"…World Admiring Korea [Yoon Seok-yeol Impeachment] Citizens who supported the impeachment are cheering at the Constitutional Court's dismissal ruling in the Anguk-dong area of Jongno-gu, Seoul.

In addition, many comments with nuances satirizing or criticizing the political situation in the U.S. were observed. A reader named A Jogallerker wrote, "Other countries hold their leaders accountable, but it’s funny that we have become the dictators we once fought against for a free nation." To this, a reader named James H replied, "We held Joe Biden accountable."

A reader named M Morris, seemingly targeting former President Trump's authoritarian moves, wrote, "Imagine holding those who abuse power accountable."

Reader J Moris responded, "If we had done that, the market wouldn’t have crashed like it is now," adding, "Allies would still trust and respect us, and we wouldn’t be heading into a recession." This appears to be a criticism of Trump’s disregard for long-standing allies and his imposition of high tariffs on countries worldwide the day before.

Similar comments were seen on an article by another global media outlet, The Washington Post (WP). Reader Blue Elsa wrote, "Celebrating democracy," and added, "The people spoke truth to power."

Another reader, Melmel, commented, "Congratulations to the Korean people who never gave up and to the Constitutional Court that did the right thing."

A reader named TV Critic described South Korea as "one of the democracies that works better than the United States."

Several comments comparing the situation to that of the U.S. were also posted on the WP article. Reader Kaiser Soze criticized, "South Korea, France, and Brazil removed and prosecuted authoritarian politicians and addressed corruption issues, but the U.S. re-elected them because grocery prices were too high, and now it is paying the price."

Another reader, Bobtuji, wrote, "South Korea performed better than the U.S. on the democracy barometer," adding, "In the so-called 'land of the free,' our top criminal played golf while the economy was burning down."
