China imposes 34% 'retaliatory tariffs' on US imports... 16 US defense companies also sanctioned

After U.S. President Donald Trump announced an additional 34% reciprocal tariff on China, China responded strongly by deciding to impose the same 34% additional tariff on all U.S. imports.

According to China Central Television (CCTV) on the 4th, the Chinese State Council stated, "From 12:01 PM on the 10th, an additional 34% tariff will be imposed on U.S. imports," adding, "Even if the cargo was shipped before this cutoff time, if it arrives in China by midnight on May 13, the additional tariff will not be applied."

Along with this, Chinese authorities have consecutively announced various sanctions against U.S. companies and resources.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has taken measures to ban the export of dual-use goods (products for both military and civilian use) to 16 U.S. military companies.

Additionally, control measures restricting the export of key rare earth resources such as samarium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, lutetium, scandium, and yttrium were announced.

The Chinese customs authority, the General Administration of Customs, announced the suspension of export qualifications for six U.S. companies related to beef and poultry products, citing quarantine issues.

Furthermore, Chinese authorities officially filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO), claiming that the U.S. tariff measures and trade policies violate WTO regulations.
