The Korea Agro-Industrial Complex Association (Chairman Seo Gyujeong, tenant companies of Haebo Agro-Industrial Complex in Jeonnam) visited Namhu Agro-Industrial Complex in Andong City on the 3rd and delivered 10 million won in consolation money to business owners affected by the wildfire.
At the consolation money delivery ceremony, attendees included Chairman Seo Kyujeong, Vice Chairman Jang Jibok (Chairman of Chungnam Agro-Industrial Complex Council), Vice Chairman Kim Hyeonggu (Chairman of Gyeongbuk Agro-Industrial Complex Council), Kim Changuk (Chairman of Chungbuk Agro-Industrial Complex Council), and Choi Seonggyu (Chairman of Jeonnam Agro-Industrial Complex Council).
The Namhu Agro-Industrial Complex suffered significant damage, with many factories completely destroyed in the large-scale wildfire that broke out on the 25th of last month.
More than ten days after the fire, the smell of soot still lingered at the site, and affected business owners expressed severe hardship due to the enormous restoration costs and management difficulties. Some business owners even expressed their desperation, saying, "Now, all that's left is for us to go bankrupt."
Chairman Seo Kyujeong stated, "I learned about the situation through the media, but seeing it in person, the damage is much more severe. As a fellow business owner, I feel a sense of solidarity. This should be an opportunity to conduct a nationwide survey of agro-industrial complexes and establish wildfire prevention measures." He also urged the government and local authorities to come up with practical support measures for the affected businesses.
Currently, there are a total of 481 agro-industrial complexes nationwide, with over 8,000 factories employing more than 150,000 workers. The Korea Agro-Industrial Complex Association, a nationwide organization approved by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in 2005, plays a role in resolving the difficulties of business owners through its eight provincial agro-industrial complex councils.
In addition, the government is reviewing support systems to revitalize agro-industrial complexes and is discussing various support measures, including expanding financial support and providing tax benefits.
Meanwhile, the government and local authorities are reviewing support measures for the restoration of the Namhu Agro-Industrial Complex, and are also discussing financial support and restoration cost subsidies for the affected businesses.
