Vietnam Imposes Up to 15.67% Anti-Dumping Duties on Korean Zinc-Coated Steel Sheets

Vietnam Imposes Up to 15.67% Anti-Dumping Duties on Korean Zinc-Coated Steel Sheets Galvanized Steel Sheet

The Vietnamese government announced on the 4th (local time) that it has decided to temporarily impose anti-dumping duties of up to 15.67% on certain Korean galvanized steel sheet products.

According to industry sources and foreign media, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade stated in a press release that the duties will be applied for 120 days starting from the 16th. Additionally, anti-dumping duties of up to 37.13% will be imposed on Chinese galvanized steel sheet products.

Vietnamese authorities have been conducting anti-dumping investigations since June last year following claims that some Korean and Chinese galvanized steel sheets were being dumped, causing serious damage to the local industry.

The Vietnam Steel Association has continuously demanded the imposition of tariffs on galvanized steel sheets imported from China and Korea to protect the domestic steel industry.

The association pointed out that imports from China and Korea accounted for 64-67% of Vietnam's galvanized steel sheet imports during 2022-2023, rapidly increasing pressure on the Vietnamese steel industry.

It also expressed concerns that if this trend continues, it will seriously affect not only galvanized steel sheet manufacturers but the entire Vietnamese steel industry.

Meanwhile, Vietnam had already imposed anti-dumping duties on Korean and Chinese galvanized steel sheets for five years starting from April 2017, and in February announced anti-dumping duties ranging from 19.38% to 27.83% on certain Chinese hot-rolled coil steel products.
