Hampyeong County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 4th that it participated in the "Relay Campaign to Improve Awareness of Population Issues," organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Health and Welfare.
On the 3rd, Lee Sangik, Governor of Hampyeong County, joined the campaign after being nominated by Shim Minseop, Chairman of Jangseong County Council, as part of the "Relay Campaign to Improve Awareness of Population Issues." On this day, Governor Lee nominated Kim San, Governor of Muan County, and Myung Hyunkwan, Governor of Haenam County, as the next participants in the campaign.
The "Relay Campaign to Improve Awareness of Population Issues" was launched to raise social awareness about serious population issues such as low birth rates and aging, and to seek practical solutions. Local governments and public institutions across the country have been participating in relay format since last October, starting with the Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Health and Welfare.
Hampyeong County recognizes the seriousness of population decline and the risk of local extinction, and is implementing various population policies tailored to each stage of life to address these issues. The county plans to provide practical benefits such as ▲support for postpartum care expenses for families with newborns ▲Hampyeong County talent development scholarships (full reimbursement of tuition and academic encouragement grants) ▲creation of a Youth Street Campus ▲expanded support for knee joint, cataract, and glaucoma surgery costs.
Governor Lee Sangik stated, "The enormous challenge of population issues in our time can only be solved if all residents work together," and added, "Hampyeong County will make active efforts to achieve sustainable population growth."
