[Yoon Suk-yeol Dismissal] "A New Beginning"... Gwangju and Jeonnam Legal Circles "Welcome"

On the 4th, as the Constitutional Court issued a decision to dismiss President Yoon Suk-yeol, the legal community in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions also expressed unanimous support. The two organizations described this decision as a "victory for the defense of democracy" and "a new beginning."


The Gwangju Bar Association released a statement on the same day, saying, "We actively welcome the Constitutional Court's decision to dismiss Yoon Suk-yeol," and added, "This decision is a stern judgment by democratic citizens against the forces of insurrection that trampled on democracy and constitutional order." The statement continued, "We will continue to strive to realize social justice and protect human rights in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution."

The Gwangju and Jeonnam branch of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society (Minbyun) also issued a commentary, stating, "By unanimously dismissing Yoon Suk-yeol, the Constitutional Court has protected the Republic of Korea," and emphasized, "This is the result achieved by the resistance of citizens standing against injustice and their determination to defend the Constitution."


Minbyun stated, "Today is the day Article 1 of the Constitution, 'The Republic of Korea is a democratic republic,' was upheld, and finally, justice has prevailed," adding, "This dismissal is not the end but a new beginning, and we must build a new Republic of Korea with unwavering determination." The statement continued, "Minbyun will continue to stand quietly by the side of citizens striving for a democratic society."
