[Yoon Suk-yeol Dismissal] Kim Daejung, Jeonnam Superintendent: "Defending the Values of Democracy and the Constitution"

Kim Daejung, Superintendent of Education for Jeonnam, expressed his position on social media following the Constitutional Court's decision to remove President Yoon Sukyeol from office.

On the 4th, Superintendent Kim stated on his Facebook, "Through the stern punishment for the act of rebellion in which the sitting president attempted to mobilize the military to undermine democracy and the Constitution, we must ensure that such an incident is never repeated."

He added, "Regardless of political stance, we must reach a national consensus of zero tolerance when it comes to defending the values of democracy and the Constitution," and continued, "Furthermore, this should serve as an opportunity for the emergency martial law that has suppressed democracy in the Republic of Korea to disappear from our history forever."

Superintendent Kim also said, "The people must play a leading role as sovereigns in protecting democracy and the Constitution," and continued, "We have witnessed the disorder caused by the December 3 martial law incident and how it took far too long to restore constitutional order. There may be many reasons for this, but it reminded us that, unlike other systems, democracy and the Constitution require the will and effort of the sovereign people."

He further stated, "Our generation grew up hearing that 'democracy is nurtured with blood.' Just as democracy in other countries has been built on sacrifice and effort, so has democracy in Korea. I hope the next generation will hear that 'democracy can thrive on interest and will alone.'"

Meanwhile, Superintendent Kim previously recommended on the 1st that schools in Jeonnam voluntarily watch the live broadcast of the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial verdict for President Yoon Sukyeol.
