With this expansion, the annual MDI (Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate) production capacity has increased to 610,000 tons, making it the largest single plant in Korea and the second largest in the world.

In particular, the new plant includes an eco-friendly recycling facility that reduces by-products and wastewater generated during the MDI (Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate) production process back into raw materials such as chlorine and hydrogen, thereby preventing environmental pollution and securing cost competitiveness.

Mayor Jung Kimyung said, "By introducing eco-friendly processes, we have achieved sustainability and cost competitiveness through this plant expansion, further solidifying our position as a leading polyurethane company in Korea. I thank Kumho Mitsui Chemicals for hiring local residents despite difficult circumstances, and we will continue to work together with companies to overcome the crisis in the industrial complex."

Meanwhile, Yeosu City is striving to have the Yeosu National Industrial Complex designated as a preemptive industrial crisis response area in order to overcome the crisis in the petrochemical industry caused by the prolonged domestic and international economic downturn.
