[Yoon Suk-yeol Dismissal] Gwangju and Jeonnam Democratic Party: "Victory for the People"

"Order: The respondent, President Yoon Sukyeol, is dismissed from office."

On the 4th, as the Constitutional Court delivered a ruling to dismiss President Yoon Sukyeol, the Gwangju City Committee and Jeonnam Provincial Committee of the Democratic Party declared, "We wholeheartedly welcome this as a victory for the people."

The Gwangju City Committee of the Democratic Party issued a statement that day, saying, "The Constitutional Court has upheld the impeachment motion against Yoon Sukyeol. It has been 111 days since the impeachment motion was passed by the National Assembly," and emphasized, "The history of democracy in the Republic of Korea has begun anew."

The committee stated, "In order to extend his own power, Yoon Sukyeol declared martial law on the night of December 3 last year, mobilized soldiers and police to seize constitutional institutions such as the National Assembly and the National Election Commission. Yoon Sukyeol, the People Power Party, and far-right forces deceived the people with the absurd claim that 'martial law is enlightenment law,' plunging the Republic of Korea into lawlessness rife with division and violence."

They continued, "In response, the people took to the streets to restore democracy and constitutional order. It is thanks to the citizens across the country who spent sleepless nights chanting 'Dismiss Yoon Sukyeol' that today we could hear the Constitutional Court's ruling: 'The respondent, President Yoon Sukyeol, is dismissed from office.'"

The committee added, "Now, the dark night of insurrection has ended, and an era of bright light has begun. We will stand with the people to restore collapsed democracy and the rule of law. We will do our utmost with the government to revive the people's livelihood and ensure daily life returns to normal as soon as possible," and said, "The Democratic Party will create a new future together with the people."

The Jeonnam Provincial Committee of the Democratic Party also stated, "At 11:22, all eight justices of the Constitutional Court unanimously ruled to dismiss Yoon Sukyeol, the ringleader of the insurrection," and added, "The president, who should have protected the Constitution, instead trampled on constitutional order and led a praetorian coup that betrayed the people with military and police forces. This is a stern judgment."

The committee emphasized, "Today's outcome is a victory for the people, especially the residents of Jeonnam and our party members," and added, "Now we must accelerate the complete restoration of the collapsed constitutional order and democracy."

The committee further stated, "We will devote all our efforts to normalizing the economy and diplomacy damaged by insurrection and trade wars, and to rescuing the people's livelihoods in crisis," adding, "As the root and heart of the Democratic Party, the Jeonnam Provincial Committee will uphold the will of the residents and party members to firmly establish constitutional order and the justice of democracy."
