Yeongju Korea Institute of Hyoculture Selected for Ministry of Health and Welfare Public Contest Project

Introducing Our Homemade Meals...
Homemade Meal Recipe Contest to Be Held in Five Regions Nationwide

Yeongju Korea Hyoculture Promotion Institute (Director Park Changgeuk) has been finally selected for the ‘2025 Senior Welfare Private Organization Support Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and operated by the Korea Labor Force Development Institute for the Aged.

This project, under the theme ‘Stories of Taste Connecting Generations: Introducing Our Homemade Meals,’ will be conducted as an experiential intergenerational empathy program centered around a ‘Homemade Meal Recipe Contest’ in five regions nationwide.

The goal is for the younger generation to directly hear the wisdom and culinary skills of the elderly, cook together, and record these memories, thereby reviving communication between generations and the value of filial piety culture.

The ‘Homemade Meal Recipe Contest’ will be held from May to October in five regions across the country: Jeolla region (Jeonju, May), Chungcheong region (Cheongju, June), Seoul/Gyeonggi region (Seoul, August), Gangwon region (Gangneung, September), and Gyeongsang region (Yeongju, October). A total of 100 families, 20 from each region, are expected to participate.

Participating families will have the grandparent generation provide homemade meal recipes and related stories, then cook and share these stories together as a family. Grandchildren will directly document the cooking process, and a video team and story writer will produce content to later be published as a ‘Story Recipe Book.’

In particular, the Seoul/Gyeonggi region aims for broad public promotion by linking with the 2025 K-Food Festa (Seoul Magok COEX). Additionally, the following venues will be utilized by region: Jeolla region in Jeonju at the ‘Korean Traditional Culture Center’; Chungcheong region in Cheongju at the ‘Seowon University Department of Hotel Culinary Arts Practice Room’; Gangwon region in Gangneung at the ‘Gangneung Yeongdong University Culinary Practice Room’; and Gyeongsang region in Yeongju at the ‘Seonbi World Cooking Class Lecture Room.’

Alongside the contest, other initiatives will be promoted, such as intergenerational ‘Dining Table Talks,’ publication of the ‘Our Family Homemade Meal Report’ created by grandparent and grandchild generations, and the ‘Assembled Family Project’ to foster emotional bonds with non-family members. Notably, 100 grandchildren will be listed as co-authors in the recipe book, and all videos and stories will be shared with the public through SNS and YouTube Shorts.

Director Park Changgeuk stated, “This project will serve as a stepping stone for the institute to further promote hyoculture,” adding, “We will actively support efforts to deliver the comfort and empathy that a bowl of food connecting generations can provide to the entire nation.”
