Ulsan City Signs MOU to Establish Shipbuilding Industry Cooperation Network

Formation and Operation of a Council to Ensure Sustainable Growth and Strengthen Competitiveness in the Shipbuilding Industry
Technical Seminar to Share Information on Technology and Policy Trends

On April 4 at 11:00 a.m., Ulsan City will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish the Ulsan Shipbuilding and Marine Cooperation Network at the Tanibay Hotel located in Ilsan-dong, Dong-gu, Ulsan.


This MOU has been arranged to establish an industry-academia-research-government cooperation system for the development of the local shipbuilding industry.


A total of 13 local companies, universities, and institutions will participate, including the city government, Ulsan Technopark, Korea Testing & Research Institute, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Mipo, University of Ulsan, Ulsan College, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering, and Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute.


Recently, as Korea-US cooperation has become a major agenda item, the shipbuilding industry has been at the center of attention. The city is moving quickly to seize this opportunity to foster, support, and advance the shipbuilding industry, which is a key local industry.


The city expects that the establishment of a cooperative network among companies, universities, and related institutions through this agreement will create synergy by performing complementary roles, thereby playing a major role in the economic and industrial development of the region.


Following the signing of the MOU, a technical seminar will also be held.


The technical seminar will feature four sessions: △Trends in Shipbuilding Technology (Min Junki, General Manager, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries) △Eco-friendly Decarbonization in the Shipbuilding and Marine Industry (Lee Junghoon, Director, DNV) △Trends and Development Cases of Composite Material Manufacturing Technology (Park Youngbin, Professor, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology) △Characteristics and Application Fields of Glass Fiber Composites (Kim Sunghyun, Director, Owens Corning Korea).


Through this seminar, Ulsan City plans to share information on future ship technology trends and domestic and international policy trends, as well as to plan, discover, and commercialize collaborative projects to further advance the local shipbuilding industry.


An Hyodae, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, said, "With this MOU, a foundation has been laid for the Ulsan shipbuilding industry, which has overcome crises, to take a greater leap forward," and added, "I would like to thank local companies, universities, and innovation institutions for coming together with one heart and mind for the development of the local industry. We will do our best so that the fruits of the development of the Ulsan shipbuilding industry can be shared with all citizens."
