Seongdong-gu Conducts Risk Assessment to Prevent 'Accidents' at 108 Workplaces

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Wono) announced that it will conduct a "Risk Assessment" targeting workplaces in the area for four months from March to July to prevent industrial accidents and create a safe working environment.

"Risk Assessment" is a series of processes that identify harmful and dangerous factors that may occur in the workplace in advance, establish reduction measures to improve them, and implement them, playing a key role in preventing major accidents.

The district conducts "Risk Assessments" regularly every year to strengthen safety measures for facilities in the area and enhance disaster prevention. This year, a systematic and professional inspection will be carried out jointly with safety and health specialized agencies for 108 workplaces in the district. The inspections will focus on relatively vulnerable places to industrial accidents, including office spaces such as the district office building, waste collection sites, rainwater pumping stations, and park management offices.

For the three major accident types?falls, entrapment, collisions?and hazardous and dangerous factors such as high-risk machinery, equipment, and hazardous chemicals, risk reduction measures will be mandatorily established and thoroughly improved.

In particular, this year, the district will strengthen on-site listening surveys targeting workers and conduct surveys both online and offline to actively identify potential risk factors such as "Acha accidents" and establish effective risk reduction measures. An "Acha accident" refers to a near-miss incident where an accident almost occurred due to worker negligence or equipment defects on site but did not result in a direct accident. The district expects that managing "Acha accidents" will be highly effective in early detection and prevention of accident risks.

The district plans to share the results of the "Risk Assessment" through "Pre-Work Safety Meetings (TBM, Tool Box Meeting)" and expand the target to all workplaces, including those deemed very dangerous, to raise awareness among all workers actually working at the sites. The "Pre-Work Safety Meeting (TBM)" is an activity where workers gather on-site just before work, led by supervisors or leaders, to check and discuss the work content, safety rules, and risk factors.

Seongdong-gu conducted training on March 11 for about 70 related personnel to enhance understanding of "Risk Assessment" and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. The training strengthened practical capabilities by covering ▲ the importance of risk assessment ▲ procedures and methods of risk assessment ▲ analysis of "Acha accidents" and industrial accident cases ▲ understanding of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Industrial Safety and Health Act ▲ and the importance of Pre-Work Safety Meetings (TBM).

Jeong Wono, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "We are thoroughly conducting 'Risk Assessments' to ensure that workers can work in a safe environment free from industrial accidents by listening to voices from the field and not missing even small risks." He added, "We will create a flawlessly safe workplace through continuous safety inspections, constant communication, and immediate actions and responses."
