Over 10,000 Volunteers from 644 Organizations Nationwide Work Together to Support Victims of Gyeongbuk Wildfire

Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 3rd that around 10,000 volunteers have been actively participating in volunteer activities to help wildfire victims in severely affected areas since the 22nd of last month.


A total of 10,197 volunteers from 644 organizations are visiting five affected cities and counties to provide practical assistance to the victims. Centered around local volunteer centers, these volunteers, who have gathered from all over the country, are actively engaged in a variety of activities such as providing meal support, organizing shelters, handling waste disposal, and sorting received goods.

In particular, for evacuees who are staying in shelters for extended periods, volunteers are not only offering daily convenience support but also providing laundry services, psychological counseling, medical volunteering, and shelter environment maintenance, among other activities.


Gyeongbuk Province plans to continue supporting wildfire victims, expand various volunteer activities such as helping with farm work during the busy spring farming season, and carry out housing recovery and site cleanup activities in the affected areas.


Currently, volunteer pre-registration is being conducted through the 1365 Volunteer Portal from the 28th of last month to the 18th of this month. The registered volunteers will be working in the wildfire-affected areas for six weeks, from the 21st of this month until May 31st.


Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheolwoo stated, "I would like to express my deep gratitude not only to the local residents who are facing great difficulties due to the wildfire damage but also to everyone who has participated in the volunteer activities," and added, "Gyeongbuk Province will continue to do its utmost to help the victims return to their normal lives, and we will actively support the volunteers so that their warm hearts can bring hope to the affected areas."
