Strengthening the Status as an Energy Cluster Hub
and Achieving Regional Coexistence
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters (Director Lee Seyong) achieved a cumulative power generation of 1.3 trillion kWh as of April 1.
This achievement comes 37 years after the completion of Hanul Unit 1 in 1988.
The cumulative power generation of 1.3 trillion kWh achieved by Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters is equivalent to the total electricity consumption of Seoul over the past 30 years and corresponds to about 2.4 years of South Korea's electricity usage as of 2024.
The total electricity consumption of Seoul over the past 30 years is 1.1967 trillion kWh (Korea Electric Power Corporation) from 1995 to 2024. South Korea's electricity usage in 2024 is 549.5 billion kWh in total domestic electricity transactions (Korea Power Exchange).
Along with supplying electricity, Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters has also made efforts for mutual growth, such as expanding the scale of regional support. The support projects linked to power generation by KHNP have provided a total of 266.8 billion KRW to the fields of economy, education and scholarships, and medical welfare, making it the largest among the five nuclear power headquarters nationwide. In addition, the total amount of local resource facility tax paid by Hanul Headquarters to Uljin-gun is approximately 700 billion KRW.
The taxes paid by Hanul Headquarters make a significant contribution to the finances of Uljin-gun. In 2024, the total tax paid amounts to 115.2 billion KRW, including 65.3 billion KRW in local resource facility tax and 32.3 billion KRW in acquisition tax, accounting for about 69.7% of the total tax revenue collected by Uljin-gun.
Director Lee Seyong stated, "I am very proud that Hanul Headquarters has achieved a cumulative power generation of 1.3 trillion kWh. We will continue to focus on the fundamentals of power production through safe nuclear power generation, and we will always strive and consider ways to grow together with Uljin, the energy cluster, for the next 100 years."
