On the 3rd, Mayor Bang Se-hwan of Gwangju announced a vision to create ‘a city where culture becomes part of citizens' daily lives, a culture-centered city Gwangju’ through policy communication with citizens, and revealed plans to implement various policies to build a culture-based city.

Mayor Bang emphasized, “It is now time for policies to consider ‘fun’,” adding, “‘Fun City’ is not just simple entertainment but a culture-based city that enhances citizens' quality of life.”

To establish the ‘Fun City,’ Gwangju City is pursuing three main strategies: ▲expanding cultural infrastructure ▲expanding cultural programs in daily life ▲globalizing local festivals.

Jungdae Mulbit Park will be developed into a cultural space combining a performance venue and picnic area, and community-oriented cultural facilities such as the Gosan-dong and Sinhyeon-dong Cultural Centers, Songjeong-dong complex building, and Chowol Life Culture Center will be opened sequentially.

Additionally, cultural infrastructure will be expanded within private parks such as Jungang Park, Ssangryeong Park, Yangbeol Park, and Gungpyeong Park to provide family-oriented experience and leisure spaces including an ecological science center, glamping site, and forest performance hall.

Alongside this, the city will operate various programs to allow citizens to easily access culture in their daily lives.

Various cultural programs such as the Gwangju Municipal Gwangjiwon Nongak Troupe’s ‘Traditional Performance Delivery,’ traveling art performances ‘Gwangju Art Yard,’ and the movie picnic ‘Oh Hollywood’ will be held throughout the region.

In particular, the ‘Gonjiam Music Festival,’ celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, has been selected as part of the ‘Korea Performing Arts Festival,’ gaining nationwide attention.

Furthermore, Gwangju City plans to reorganize its three major representative festivals?Namhan Mountain Fortress Cultural Festival, Gwangju Royal Porcelain Festival, and Gwangju Royal Tomato Festival?with differentiated content and expand domestic and international cooperation to elevate them into global festivals.

Mayor Bang Se-hwan stated, “We will do our best to create a city where culture naturally permeates citizens' lives, a ‘Gwangju-style Fun City.’”

Meanwhile, detailed information about this policy communication can be found on Gwangju City Hall’s official YouTube channel.
