Gyeongju City Honored with Grand Prize in 'Leadership Management' at Korea Best Management Awards

On the 3rd, Gyeongju City received the Grand Prize in the 'Leadership Management' category at the 2025 10th Korea Best Management Awards, hosted by Maekyung Media Group at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul.


The Management Awards, sponsored by Maeil Business Newspaper, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and others, is a system that selects and awards organizations and companies that have achieved outstanding results in various fields through excellent administrative strategies and bold challenges.

Gyeongju City was recognized for its efforts in attracting the APEC Summit, advancing the next-generation nuclear power industry, establishing an e-mobility research complex, revitalizing the downtown economy, preparing comprehensive measures for low birth rates, providing convenient transportation, and promoting a green Gyeongju.


At the end of October this year, the APEC Summit will be held in Gyeongju for the first time in 20 years since the 2005 Busan APEC. Delegations from various countries who visited Gyeongju for SOM1 and working-level meetings in February and March this year expressed high satisfaction with accommodations, medical services, and conference facilities.


The Munmu Daewang Science Research Institute is actively researching and developing SMR, the next-generation advanced reactor, while the SMR National Industrial Complex project is being promoted to manufacture and export SMRs, positioning Gyeongju as a hub for the next-generation nuclear power industry.


To help the local root industry, automobile manufacturing, adapt to paradigm shifts, Gyeongju is leading efforts to strengthen corporate technological competitiveness through facilities such as the Advanced Materials Forming and Processing Center for Future Vehicles, the Carbon Material Parts Recycling Center, and the e-Mobility Battery Sharing Station Integrated Control Hub Center.


Geumridan-gil has been transformed into a Light Square and Light Street under the theme 'The Golden Culture of Silla and the Stars of Gyeongju.' Last September, the Golden Carnival Festival was held in the central shopping district and Bonghwangdae area, attracting 150,000 visitors during the event period.


In April last year, Gyeongju City held the 'Gyeongju-type Comprehensive Countermeasure Briefing for the War on Low Birth Rates' and announced plans to invest 79.1 billion KRW in 63 projects to mitigate population decline and respond to future demographic changes.


The Hwanggeum Bridge, a four-lane bridge 371 meters long and 20 meters wide connecting Hyeon-gok-myeon and Hwangseong-dong, was officially opened in May last year. It has greatly helped alleviate traffic congestion and improve living conditions in these densely populated residential areas.


A transfer parking lot capable of accommodating 894 vehicles will be established near Hwangridan-gil by the end of this year. This project involves investing 23.5 billion KRW to create a large-scale public parking lot on a 47,448 square meter site in the Sajung-dong area.


Joo Nakyoung, Mayor of Gyeongju City, said, "I am very pleased that the projects Gyeongju City has been focusing on have been recognized with this award," and added, "We will continue to devote ourselves to making Gyeongju the best city to live in nationwide, based on outstanding leadership and driving force."
