Exploring Changes and Creative Boundaries in the OTT Era

Director Lee Doyoon, who recently gained popularity for directing the Netflix medical drama "Jungjeung Oesang Center," will visit Pusan National University to give a lecture on the changes in the OTT era and the boundaries of creative work.

The Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) Film Research Institute (Director Seo Daejeong) announced on the 3rd that it will invite Director Lee Doyoon to host the "Pusan National University Film Research Institute Regular Colloquium CINE-NETWORK ON" event at 4 p.m. on the 10th at the Hyowon Art Theater in the university’s College of Arts.

Since 2021, the Pusan National University Film Research Institute has been steadily holding the regular colloquium CINE-NETWORK ON to provide a foundational understanding of East Asia-network research in the hyper-connected era following the post-Cold War period.

This colloquium, featuring Director Lee Doyoon of "Jungjeung Oesang Center" as the speaker, will be held under the theme "Somewhere Between Film and Drama." The event is part of the CINE-NETWORK ON regular lecture series, supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea’s Humanities and Social Science Research Institute Support Project, and will provide an in-depth discussion on changes in the film and video content industry.

In particular, the event is expected to explore the shifting boundaries between film and drama amid the expansion of OTT platforms, and shed light on the new relational order between creators and audiences.

Director Lee Doyoon made his commercial film debut with "Good Friends" and has recently received much attention for directing the Netflix series "Jungjeung Oesang Center." His works have been praised by both audiences and critics for their unique perspective, combining social realism with genre elements.

This colloquium will feature in-depth discussions on the creative process, narrative methods, and production environments of films and dramas as they evolve with the growth of OTT platforms. It will also address the practical considerations of how content provided through OTT platforms differs from traditional theatrical releases, and how creators perceive and utilize these differences.

The Pusan National University Film Research Institute plans to use this colloquium as an opportunity for both local residents and students to engage in meaningful discussions about the changing media environment of film, drama, and OTT platforms.

Participation in the event is free of charge, and all Pusan National University students, faculty, staff, and local residents are welcome. University members can register through the extracurricular program system, while the general public can apply online.
