Daejeon City Revamps Disaster Response Manual to Strengthen On-Site Execution

Daejeon City has announced that it will revise its 'Disaster Response Manual' to prepare for rapidly changing climate conditions and large-scale disaster threats.

The new manual focuses on an action-oriented system that can be immediately implemented on-site. It clarifies the missions and responsibilities for each stage from the occurrence of a disaster to recovery, thereby enhancing the continuity and effectiveness of the response.

The city has strengthened the control tower function for disaster response and the support function for the regional disaster safety headquarters in each autonomous district. The Fire Department and disaster-related departments will concentrate on on-site response, while the command headquarters will be managed by the Citizen Safety Office, the Administration and Autonomy Bureau, and the Welfare Bureau to reduce confusion and promote unified command.

In addition, a victim integrated support center will be operated to establish a one-stop integrated support system for handling civil complaints.

Yu Deukwon, Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, stated, "In order to minimize damage when a disaster occurs, rapid and systematic response is the most important. Please clarify the missions and roles of each department and prepare as if in a real situation to ensure the utmost protection of citizens' lives and safety."
