Jobs for the Middle-aged, Low Birthrate, Work-Family Balance... Busan Responds as 'One Team' to Super-aged Population Changes

Busan Holds Second Population Change Response TF Meeting
Vice Mayor Lee Joonseung: "We Will Implement Population Policies That Citizens Can Truly Feel"

The dedicated organization (TF) of Busan Metropolitan City, which is responsible for responding to demographic changes in the super-aged society such as jobs for the new middle-aged and low birthrate issues, held its second meeting.

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) announced that it would hold the second Population Change Response TF meeting at 10 a.m. on the 7th floor meeting room of City Hall on the 3rd.

This meeting was presided over by Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Lee Joonseung, and attended by relevant department heads, officials from Busan Urban Corporation, and Busan Institute of Urban Affairs.

This meeting was organized as part of Busan's population change response strategy established in September last year. Discussions included expanding support projects for new middle-aged jobs to respond to the super-aged society, measures to promote work-life balance in response to low birthrate, and regulatory innovation plans to address demographic changes.

The meeting focused on creating employment conditions that allow continued work, supporting new middle-aged job projects for old-age income security, and policies to promote work-life balance for achieving a better work-life balance.

Busan expanded the new middle-aged job project, which supported 490 people last year, to 2,500 people this year. The city is promoting employment support that utilizes retirees' experience, expanding continued employment through internships, discovering flexible jobs for job seekers and companies that do not require full-time work, and expanding social jobs to realize social value.

Additionally, the city plans to promote the spread of a childcare-friendly workplace culture in the public sector, discover family-friendly certified companies and excellent work-life balance companies, strengthen support systems for women with career interruptions, and conduct publicity to broaden awareness of work-life balance.

At the meeting, unnecessary regulations that hinder population inflow and regional development were identified and improved, and the progress of the population change response strategy was reviewed.

The TF will operate a focused period for identifying regulatory obstacles to responding to demographic changes and solicit citizen ideas through a public contest for regulatory reforms in the population sector, aiming to discover and improve regulations to expand the resident population, respond to low birthrate, and improve living conditions.

Busan formed the Population Change Response TF in October last year, with all departments working together as a one-team to address structural and complex demographic issues.

At the first meeting last year, the main implementation plans for Busan's population change response strategy were discussed. Presentations were made in order on the HAHA 365 Project, senior job activation measures, housing innovation policies (five key Happy Housing tasks), and Busan-style vacant house renovation innovation measures.

Lee Joonseung, Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs of Busan, said, "Based on the policy measures derived from this meeting, we will prepare practical population policies that citizens can truly feel."

Vice Mayor Lee added, "Through effective operation of the TF, we will continue to identify core tasks to slow the pace of population decline and respond to the changing demographic structure."
