Kim Jinmyeong Wins Seongnam District 6 with 53.38%
Seong Bokim Elected in Gunpo District 4 with 58.25%
The victories in the two by-election districts for the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly were both claimed by the Democratic Party of Korea.
Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly
According to the National Election Commission on the 2nd, in Seongnam District 6, Democratic Party candidate Kim Jin-myeong was elected with 15,334 votes (53.38%). He led by 1,945 votes over People Power Party candidate Lee Seung-jin, who received 13,389 votes (46.61%).
In Gunpo District 4, Democratic Party candidate Seong Bok-im won with 7,794 votes (58.25%), defeating People Power Party candidate Bae Jin-hyun (5,026 votes, 37.56%) and People’s Coalition candidate Oh Hee-joo (558 votes, 4.17%).
Seongnam District 6 became vacant after former provincial assembly member Lee Gi-in of the Reform New Party resigned last year to run as a proportional representative in the April 10 general election. The by-election in Gunpo District 4 was held due to the passing of former Democratic Party provincial assembly member Kim Pan-su.
As a result, the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, which has a total of 156 seats, has been reorganized with the Democratic Party holding 78 seats, the People Power Party 76 seats, the Reform New Party 1 seat, and 1 independent seat.
