Goheung Records 63.8% and Gwangyang 15.5% Voter Turnout for Local Council Elections
Damyang County Council By-election Won Unopposed
With the conclusion of the April 2 by-elections, the voter turnout for the Damyang County mayoral by-election in Jeollanam-do recorded 61.8%, the highest among all local government head elections nationwide. The national average voter turnout for the local government head by-elections held on this day was 37.8%.
According to the National Election Commission's election statistics system on the 2nd, in the Damyang County mayoral by-election, 24,969 out of a total of 40,394 eligible voters participated (15,465 through early voting and mail-in voting within the jurisdiction, and 9,504 on election day), resulting in a turnout of 61.8%.
This was the highest figure among the five local government head elections held nationwide, including Guro-gu in Seoul, Asan-si in Chungnam, Gimcheon-si in Gyeongbuk, and Geoje-si in Gyeongnam.
In the Goheung Na electoral district, which was electing a local council member, 6,179 out of 9,678 eligible voters participated, resulting in a turnout of 63.8%, the highest among all electoral districts in the country on this day. In the Gwangyang Da electoral district, 4,784 out of 30,960 eligible voters cast their ballots, resulting in a turnout of 15.5%.
Meanwhile, in the Damyang County council by-election, candidate Noh Daehyun (Democratic Party) was elected unopposed, as he was the sole candidate.
